My three dimensional work has its origins in a metal sculpture studio class, where I became fascinated with the volumetric shapes I could conjure up using wire mesh. I relish the sense of childlike discovery that comes with the construction and evolution of these pieces.
The work relies both on intent and serendipity. In some cases the shapes are abstractions inspired by natural world (the “reef fish” series); more often I rely on the form itself to inspire decisions about media, color and texture.
The joy for me in creating my sculptural work comes from the process of experimentation: often using unexpected materials to reveal something new about each form. My goal is to create compelling visual associations for viewers, with the hope that they come away with more questions than answers.
